From Control Rooms to Creator Culture: Ryan “Smitty2447” Smith Is Building in Both Worlds

When the red tally light switches on and the countdown reaches zero, Ryan “Smitty2447” Smith is already in motion.

Inside a Las Vegas control room, he monitors audio levels, graphics, and live feeds — a setting that has defined much of his professional life. Long before home streaming setups and digital creator platforms, Smith built his career directing newscasts and managing production floors.

Smith is an Emmy Award-nominated newscast and technical director with nearly two decades of experience in broadcast media. A graduate of Western Illinois University with a Bachelor of Arts in radio and television broadcasting technology, he began his career as a master control operator at WEEK-TV before relocating to Las Vegas. His professional background and current role at VSiN, The Sports Betting Network, are outlined on his LinkedIn profile.

In Las Vegas, Smith joined KTNV Channel 13 Action News, where he spent more than 12 years advancing from production specialist to operations supervisor and ultimately production manager. In that role, he hired and trained staff, directed live shows, coordinated off-site productions, and managed archival footage. The work required precision, adaptability, and the ability to solve problems in real time.

As the media landscape evolved, so did Smith’s focus.

Digital platforms expanded, streaming technology matured, and podcasting grew into a mainstream format. Smith began exploring those spaces alongside his broadcast responsibilities.

He co-hosted “LAN Parties,” a video gaming and esports podcast for the Las Vegas Review-Journal, blending his technical expertise with his interest in gaming culture. He later founded RS Entertainment LLC, producing and editing video podcasts and digital content. In addition, he works as a freelance game tester for Good Gamer Group, evaluating unreleased titles and providing structured feedback. His ongoing presence in digital and gaming spaces is reflected on his professional social media account on X, where he identifies his production role and shares gaming-related work.

“I don’t think I would have the job or even gotten the opportunity had I not started streaming two years ago,” Smith said in a recorded interview. “I was inadvertently learning all this stuff, and it ended up having a positive impact on my professional career.”

Through streaming, he deepened his understanding of digital production workflows, audience engagement, and platform strategy — skills increasingly valuable in modern media operations.

“The big thing for me was just that community feel,” Smith said. “The socialization aspect of it is something that I never even considered.”

That sense of connection distinguishes digital platforms from traditional broadcast environments. While television production delivers content to broad audiences, streaming enables direct interaction and real-time, measurable engagement.

Smith now serves as production manager at VSiN after previously working as senior technical producer for VSiN Live on Mad Dog Radio. In his current role, he oversees live production, technical direction, and digital video operations in an environment that merges broadcast infrastructure with online distribution.

He believes responsibility ultimately rests with the creator.

“It’s up to us as the content creators to create stimulating content that people are going to want to come and see,” he said.

His long-term perspective reflects that philosophy.

“Think about future self,” Smith said. “Is the future you going to thank the present you later on?”

That approach has guided his career progression — from radio aspirations to broadcast management, from control rooms to streaming setups and digital production companies.

Technology continues to evolve, but Smith’s core principles remain consistent: preparation, adaptability, and communication.

Whether directing a live broadcast, producing a podcast, or evaluating a game build, he operates at the intersection of traditional media and creator-driven culture — a space where broadcast discipline and digital innovation increasingly overlap.
